THIS WEEK'S FOCUS: BIRDS IN DOWNTOWN AUSTIN
(Scroll down to see all SIX images of birds)

BIRDS ON A WIRE
I had prepared a different photo for presentation, then I heard the news
story about Congress Avenue being closed because of the discovery of dead birds
on our downtown's main street: "As many as 60 dead pigeons, sparrows and grackles were
found overnight along Congress Avenue," JIM VERTUNO, Associated Press. Consequently, I've
decided to display some recent photos of the many birds that have been flocking into downtown Austin.

GRACKLES AT DUSK
Actually, I saw these birds at the south end of the Pfluger Bridge,
but they were probably just taking a short break on their way to downtown.

LIGHT BEFORE NIGHT
When I took this picture, I was thankful to have an opportunity to
capture the sight of birds amassing downtown. I now realize
that this is a daily occurence and a bit of a dilemma.

DANGER ZONE
For my website visitors' viewing pleasure, I risked the
perils of standing below a cluster of grackles' hindquarters.

ONE CRANE AND SIXTY-ONE GRACKLES
Grackles just love to amass in the downtown area come sunset.

THREE LEFTIES AND TWO RIGHT WINGERS
These five grackles were a tiny portion of a very large contingent of birds
that were swarming into the downtown area as dusk was approaching.
