SNOWPOCALYPSE or SNOWMAGEDDON?
Whatever you want to call it, when the polar vortex slipped down into Texas,
it wreaked havoc on almost the entire state of Texas and its power grid.
This week, I want to share with you some of my photos from the event.

UNDER THE KITCHEN SINK
In order to keep my sink's water pipes from freezing, I saw this scenario every time
I would walk into my kitchen. Not sure how much it helped once the power went out.

REAL SNOW ... IN AUSTIN, TEXAS!
(Monday, February 15th, 2021)
The whole event started out quite beautifully. This is the first picture I
took of the snow, looking out at my back yard from my laundry room.

MY BACK DECK
(Monday, February 15th, 2021)
This is my second picture of the snow and my back yard, taken from my studio window.
At this point, it was cold, but I still had my electricity, and the snow was beautiful.
Unfortunately, some of my friends in the neighborhood had lost their power.

IT'S COLD IN HERE!
(Tuesday, February 16th, 2021)
I woke up Tuesday morning, and immediately I knew that my electricity had gone out. In the winter,
I sleep with a parabolic dish heater at my feet. The heater has a pleasant, warm glow ... but when I awoke,
there was no warm glow, and my feet were cold! I got up and the electric clock in my studio had stopped at 7:15.
Because I have a gas stove, I was able to make my oatmeal, and I've an old Walkman I wore to listen to Morning Edition.

ANOTHER VIEW OF MY SNOW-COVERED BACK YARD
(Tuesday, February 16th, 2021)
Having no electricity, I found things to do in my studio, using the
natural light coming through my east-facing window and enjoying
the view of all of the snow covering my back deck and yard.

WELL, IT'S ALMOST 7:21 PM, AND THERE AIN'T MUCH TO DO...
(Tuesday, February 16th, 2021)
Joni Mitchell was correct when she sang, "Don't it always seem to go,
that you don't know what you've got till it's gone." This is a view of
my kitchen at 7:20:58 PM. I decided to go to my cold bed at 9:00.

PECULIAR MESSAGING
(Wednesday, February 17th, 2021)
We had freezing rain overnight, which was definitely not good for my trees and
shrubs. I walked out of my front door to check on plants in my front yard,
when I noticed this unusual pattern in the snow on my front porch

BARTON SPRINGS HEIGHTS
(Thursday, February 18th, 2021)
After another night with no light, nothing to do and freezing my butt off, decided to get in my bed
at 8:00 PM! I figured that I wouldn't be able to fall asleep but thought I'd be warmer lying in bed.
I fell asleep a few times, but I kept awakening and wondering how much of this I could take.
And then, at 3:30 in the morning, the lights came on! I sprang out of bed and started taking
care of numerous tasks that needed tending. I discovered that Trader Joe's was open, so I
took a dangerously slippery walk across the river. On my way back, as I was approach-
ing my home, I looked ahead to view the hill upon which I live and took this photo.

VICTIM OF THE ICE STORM
(Thursday, February 18th, 2021)
I had a couple of trees damaged by the ice storm. This is a photograph of my Retama
shrub/small tree. The weight of the ice caused two major branches to twist and collapse.

THE SUN RETURNS!
(Friday, February 19th, 2021)
On Friday, the temperature finally started rising and the ice began to melt. Add
sunshine and you have some wonderful light gleaming on the ice coated branches.

SURVIVOR
(Friday, February 19th, 2021)
The hard freeze was deadly for some of the wildlife around here. I found two dead birds
in my yard. As I was surveying the damage to my trees, this little bird flew onto a tree
next to me and then waited patiently while I turned on my camera and took its photo

AND NOW, IT'S CLEAN-UP TIME
(Wednesday, February 24th, 2021)
After the weather improved, I had to get out and do a bunch of tree work. This is just a small
portion of the numerous branches that I've been bagging and bundling for the city to pick up.
